Every passing year adds its personal signature to a fine malt whisky.

1976 was the haymaking summer everyone remembers. The year that even inexpressive agricultural records broke with tradition. 'A glorious summer', they described it. 'The sort of golden season that lives in the memory for a lifetime'.

At Laphroaig, full-grained barley lay deep on the floor of the maltings. Stacks of rich mahogany peat dried in the sun.

Every season has its own rhythm. Born in an unhurried summer Laphroaig 1976 required a few extra years breathing the salty air of the beautiful hollow by the broad bay. During that time, something rare and unusual happened which we believe makes this particular malt exceptional.

Slow maturation in selected casks delicately subdued its usual peat-reek pungency. A heathery sweetness and a hint of the sea air of that unforgettable summer came more than ever to the fore.

Our weather beaten malt, matured on Islay's wild Atlantic coast, acquired a fragrant elegance. Some say a cognac note (Tasting notes). Laphroaig 1976, exclusively bottled in extremely limited quantities, is the rarest and most highly individual of all malt whiskies.

The product of a single distillery at a most singular point in time.
