GLENMORANGIE 100 PROOF SINGLE MALT Shop In the old days whisky was sold at full strength - around 100 proof spirit (57.2% alcohol) - and people added water to taste or drank a glass of water alongside their dram. This was changed in 1916 by an unpopular government body called the Central Control Board (Liquor Traffic). Now it is again permissable to bottle at full strength - and therefore savour Glenmorangie as it was enjoyed by our forbears. Tasting Notes Glenmorangie 100 Proof has a pale straw colour with an old gold hue which one would expect from 10 years in top quality American oak casks. When the whisky is nosed straight, it's salient characteristics are immediately discernible, but the bouquet is 'closed'. A small amount of water relaxes and opens up the spirit and brings forth a wonderful range of aromas - traces of cloves and cinnamon, vanilla and honey, fresh grass and new-mown hay. With further dilution, these aromas expand to include mandarin oranges, bergamot and almonds, heather, wild mint and a hint of peat-smoke. The mouth feel is smooth and uncloying, the overall impression clean and medium-bodied with an appetisingly dry finish.
